Evolution of Silk Road Network and Towns

 Objective: 

 To conduct archaeological identification, to make geographical description, and to do historical literature analysis on ancient courier stations, ancient towns, and transportation systems along the Silk Road based on historical documents study as well as field exploration, making full use of geography related technical means, and related anthropological and archaeological materials. 

 Scientific Issues: 

(1) From courier station to passageway: the opening, maintenance, and development of the Silk Road for two thousand years;

(2) Research on the evolution of the Silk Road traffic and the changes in the living environment of mankind;

(3) The compilation of historical literature on journeys to the West and the study of the thought of developing Northwest China.

The trading activities prosperous and thriving towns and cities that reflect the interface between settled and nomadic communities. Constructing the trinitarian cultural system in the historical period from the posthouse, towns and the Silk Road can not only make a systematic and comprehensive summary of the previous sporadic studies, but also provide references for the layout of the towns along the Silk Road, the protection of cultural sites, the inheritance of Chinese culture and the development of tourism.
