Session Description:The Silk Road referred to a network of trade routes that stretched from central China to the Pamirs, through central Asia and Arabia to India and Rome, which played a key role in facilitating economic, cultural, political and religious exchanges between East and West. The central part of the Silk Road, located in arid Central Asia, is highly sensitive to environmental changes. Climate and environment changes, especially changes in water resources, could significantly influence the spatio-temporal distribution of the Silk Road network, trans-Eurasian exchanges and human migration as well as the civilization development. This session aims to deepen understanding of the impact of environmental change in shaping the long-term trans-Eurasian exchange and Silk Road civilization by promoting interdisciplinary research in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities across Eurasia. We welcome presentations on these topics from multidisciplinary perspectives, to promote the advancement of research in this field.

Looking forward to seeing you in San Francisco, CA, USA, or online at the middle of December 2023.
